Osoyoos is known for its sizzling hot summers and sensational golf.  It is located in the only desert in Canada with the lowest rainfall, the highest temperatures, and the warmest fresh water lake in the country.  It is located in the middle of Southern Okanagan wine country, whose award-winning wines match any from France to California.

Fun on the Lake

Osoyoos is so warm and sunny that it is impossible to stay indoors for long. Water activities range from wakeboarding, waterskiing, swimming and tubing.  With Osoyoos shallow waters and closed off swimming areas, the lake is the perfect place for children. There are seven marinas in Osoyoos offering powerboats, persoanl watercrafts, skiies, and tubes.  For the thrill of a lifetime try parasailing or banana boating at one of Osoyoos public beaches.

Biking and Hiking

International Hiking and Biking Trail: Outdoor recreation enthusiasts from around the world are able to enjoy the scenery of the Okanagan along the hiking and biking trail which runs from the north end of Osoyoos Lake to McAlpine Bridge north of Oliver. The 18.4 kilometre trail caters to both hikers and cyclists. It provides a unique access to many South Okanagan wineries as well as the ecological reserve and Osoyoos Oxbows wildlife management area. Access is off Road #22 north of Osoyoos Lake.

Mount Kobau: Take a short drive from Osoyoos and reach one of the tallest peaks around. This is a great place for stargazing and hiking, and the view is nothing short of spectacular.

Nk'Mip Canyon Desert Golf Course: Owned and operated by the Osoyoos Indian Band, Nk’Mip Canyon expanded from a relaxed nine-hole course to a championship model in 2001. Its local field designers listened to the symmetry of the elevated Land to the north of the original nine and responded with a daring reply – adding 13 expansion holes and renovating 5 existing ones. www.nkmipcanyon.com

Beaches and Parks

Anarchist Mountain Lookout: A scenic lookout that takes visitors from 910 feet to 4,045 feet for spectacular views of the Okanagan Valley and part of Washington state.

Haynes Point Provincial Park:  Measuring about 60 feet across, this natural spit of land stretches out into the middle of a lake providing views of both Canada and the United States.

Spotted Lake: Nine kilometres west of Osoyoos on Highway 3 is Klikuk, the Spotted Lake, containing one of the world's highest concentrations of minerals, including epsom salts, calcium, magnesium and many other trace minerals. The healing mud and waters were used to alleviate aches and pains. In the summer the water evaporates and crystallizes, making the white-ringed spots visible. The lake is on private land, and is therefore not accessible, but you can get a good view from the highway.

Cottonwood Beach: With its warm, shallow water and public restrooms it is popular with families

Lions Beach: This beach has slightly deeper water and lots of amenities.

Gyro Beach: The largest beach that is the site of many events, including the Cherry Fiesta/Canada Day celebration on July 1st. It also has many amenities and plenty of shade trees.

Winter Activities 

Mount Baldy: Take a 45-minute drive north on Highway 3, to Mount Baldy. A great place to picnic or hike in the summer, and great downhill or cross-country skiing in the winter, makes this an exciting year-round destination. www.mtbaldy.com

Arts, Cultural, and Historical Experiences 

Desert Cultural Centre: The Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre (pronounced "Inkameep") celebrates thousands of years of Aboriginal habitation of the Nk'Mip Desert, one of Canada's three most endangered ecosystems. Desert Centre: This interpretive education and research facility hosts one of the largest concentrations of endangered plants and animals. Take a walk on the trails of the desert center and view nature in it's fullest. www.desert.org

Osoyoos Museum: The Osoyoos Museum is home to an original 1891 log cabin, the first schoolhouse in Osoyoos, as well as serving as a jail and government house during its life.
